Thorne Lay is Distinguished Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of California Santa Cruz. He is a seismologist, and uses seismic wave recordings to study large earthquake ruptures, internal structure of the Earth, and seismic monitoring of nuclear testing treaties.
El Paso's own Thorne Lay was elected in 2014 as a Fellow into the National Academy of Sciences and is considered one of the world's experts. If you want to know about earthquakes, Dr. Lay is the guy!

Activities will include Sphero programming for geometry, calculator programming to encourage algorithmic thinking, and how you can even use computer science to motivate writing. Completely hands-on.
